During the initial consultation, our client indicated that they were favouring a classic / vintage look for their new bathroom. Upon assessment, it became clear that there wasn’t much scope to move units around within the space they had. We settled on moving the sink into a more central position, which left more room for a toilet fitting.

CUSTOMISING TO YOUR TASTE & PREFERENCE

1. THE START

After boarding and skimming, we primed the area around the bath and installed metro tiles with a bevelled edge around the bath area, from floor to ceiling. Following this, we painted the walls and ceiling in white, then applied two coats of bathroom paint as it is more moisture-resistant. Then, we laid the wooden oak floor and fitted the wall paneling with beading around edges and on top of the cladding.

3. PREP WORK

Once this alteration had been approved, we removed the tiles, the suite and the floor. With stud partitioning, we removed the room and under-boarding back to the stud itself before starting the first fix plumbing. This includes measuring the inlets for the new suite and adjusting the plumbing. At this stage, we also performed the electrical works, including new LED down lights on the ceiling and two lights either side of the mirror. These were rewired to a dimmer switch on the external wall. 3. Now that first fix plumbing and electrical work had been successfully carried out, we re-boarded the bathroom, using moisture-resistant plasterboard. This isn’t necessary in a solid-wall bathroom, but in the case of a stud partition, it provides much better protection against the moisture in the airwhich is natural in bathrooms.

2. RIP OUT PHASE

The final stage of this bathroom was the second fixing of the suite plumbing. The customer chosea stunning Burlington suite with free-standing bath, high level cistern and a large sink. We fitted walllights to complement the mirror. Then, we finished off with an extractor and downlights, tocomplete a fantastic classic/ vintage bathroom renovation.

4. THE FINALE
